New Route!
Having been delayed Sam and I have had to sit down and ponder over a new route as if we leave any later than August 20th we would hit Alaska as it’s dropping to temperatures as low as -20degrees! Bit too blooming cold for our liking!
After putting it out there to the public opinion and with the help and guidance from some close friends (Craig, Barbara, David @ Enduristan, Charles and many others) we have finally come up with a plan.
Now with the intention to leave in November time we have planned out the following route which suits perfectly the climate as we chase it North to South and means we get to throw in the Translabrador Highway! Woohoo!
EUROPE: November / December 2012
UK – FRANCE – BELGIUM – NETHERLANDS – GERMANY – DENMARK – SWEDEN - NORWAY (NORDKAPP) – ITALY
NORTH AFRICA: December 2012 / January 2013
TUNISIA – LIBIYA – EGYPT
EAST AFRICA: February / March / April 2013
SUDAN – ETHIOPIA – TANZANIA – MALAWI – KENYA
SOUTH AFRICA: May / June 2013
ZAMBIA – BOTSWANA – NAMIBIA – SOUTH AFRICA (CAPE L’AGULHAS)
NORTH AMERICA: July / August / September / October / November 2013
CANADA (TRANSLABRADOR HIGHWAY) – ALASKA (PRUDOE BAY) – U.S.A – MEXICO
CENTRAL AMERICA: December 2013 / January 2014
BELIZE – GUATEMALA – HONDURAS – NICARAGUA – COSTA RICA
PANAMA (DARIEN GAP)

Potentially, dependent on moolah and time, we may also do a hop skip and jump from Argentina to New Zealand, onto Oz, island hop through Asia, Middle East, Europe and then home! Only time will tell at that point!

Just a note on Norway, I have never been to a more expensive country! I think it would be cool to ride through on a bike and I would love to but the prices of things kill the wallet. Food is very pricey and a pint is around £7. A small glass of wine is the same price as a pint. I have been in Stavanger now for a month, lovely coast roads all over the place. The distances on a map dont look like much but a Norwegian mile is a lot more than a normal mile. There are no direct roads to anywhere. There are hundreds of islands, bridges and bends. If you get to Sognesfjorden, you have to visit Flam, a great little place. The fjord is the biggest in the world and stunning. Have an amazing adventure. Enjoy the journey.
Heya! Thanks for the update and advice! We’ve been told it’s super pricey… the reason we wanted to head there was for the 2013 Northern Lights! Best year for them! Unfortunately it looks like we may have to cut it out as we’re pushed for time… but I want to do it when we get back! So 2014… here we come!
